[ he isn't the type to be rude to people and when he's bowed to by her, he does the action back out of being polite. for as boisterous and rowdy as he could be, he wasn't mean in spirit. so there was no reason not to respond back to her gesture in kind. ]
Oh, you're familiar with Japan? [ this makes him beam brightly ] I am Japanese. Does that mean you are, too?
[ it's kind of reassuring if that's another thread they have in common. another thing to tie them together. it's not that he would mind people from other places, but sometimes there are things with cultural nuances that can get lost in translation or don't apply across the board.
he doesn't even really think about the idea that she might be from a "different Japan" and instead just takes comfort that they're from the same place. it should be an obvious fact given the place they were was operating strangely, but it just isn't something he was going to automatically jump to. ]
[ there's something about the way that he reacts that has her laughing to herself softly. it's hard to put a finger one but it's something about him that reminds her of someone else she knows. someone that she isn't entirely certain if she should see here or not. there's comfort in knowing others here but also worry about what it will mean nevertheless her smile doesn't falter and neither does her pleasantness. ]
I am. [ she fidgets a bit, again, smoothing out her clothing a bit before pressing her hands back together. ] Looks like that's just one more thing that we have in common. I wonder what else we could find out that's the same.
[ and it might be a fun way to get to know one another...? ]
Do you want to take a walk together and see if there is more?
[ he wouldn't mind keeping more company with her, since her disposition felt calming to him. also, the prospect of finding out if they had more in common was a very nice idea.
if she wasn't interested in getting to know him now, at least she seemed amiable to the idea of getting to know each other better eventually. she could even be his first friend in this place. ]
It might be nice to have company to see what this place has to offer.
[ for a half a moment she falters before recovering quickly. ]
O, oh... [ it was such an easy question and one that anyone could see coming and yet it still catches her a little off guard. she had approached him and made conversation—thought about getting to know him better and yet... ] I'm fine with that; we can walk together.
[ she settles into a more confident smile and not as nervous disposition. even though their conversation had gone this direction, she hadn't expected him to say it so plainly. it was nice to have someone just say things as they were, however. ]
It won't be long before we're allowed to be on our own, I feel. [ as though they aren't already left alone all things considered. ] Are you going to explore more high places or will you keep your eyes closer to the ground?
[ his head tilts a little at the way she falters a bit, but doesn't try to read into it too much. while he does worry about her obvious nervous hiccup there, if something's wrong, hopefully she'll either say it or it'll work itself out eventually with them talking more. ]
It probably depends on whatever we see once we're properly released here.
[ with a massive drop like this, he couldn't resist peering over the edge and he can't make any promises that if he's thrown in another place with a great view he won't scope it out. but he will try to heed her warning about being careful earlier and apply it to further situations. ]
I don't want to possibly miss something interesting.
[ he'll nod his head in one direction, indicating a direction for them to stroll away from the area that they're in and starts to take a few paces. nothing fast and making sure she'll be able to keep up. ]
[ he doesn't have to worry about her keeping up with him since she'll be only a few steps behind him. it might be a little strange that she won't keep a perfect pace with him while capable of it, if anything, he could note how precisely and perfectly she remains two steps behind his one. perhaps, in a way, as timing things between them.
she laces her fingers behind her back as she considers the last thing he mentioned. ]
What would you consider as interesting?
[ since, you know, that is very telling in a person right from the gate. some people lived for simpler things like watching birds or reading books... what kind of things was he interested in? ]
[ that pacing is something that he'll notice, but won't comment on. people have their different idiosyncrasies and as long as someone isn't hurting anyone with what they do, he has no reason to comment on it or question why. he will, however, shoot a smile back at her. ]
Mm... I think a lot of things could be interesting. [ he laughs a little, rubbing his neck some, realizing how vague that sounds. ]
Even if a situation or place could seem boring, there's always something that could be made interesting.
[ by that statement, it should be obvious that he's the type that makes a lot of his own fun when he's with people, that he likes to see people laugh and enjoy themselves. even if she doesn't quite mean that, the point is that interesting things can be found anywhere and he isn't about to turn away from a situation, just in case there's something to be found there. ]
[ It's true. Itadori isn't the type that would just run away from a dire situation just because it was convenient. He's already had his choice if he wanted to continue living and fight for a future free of one more curse. A massive one. One that only he could control. One that he would eventually die over. So while his days were numbered either way, he figured the best thing to do was live on and fight this as long as he could manage.
Though, honestly? It was nice. This reprieve from their world. At first, it was extremely strange of him not feeling that curse swimming just blow his surface, always lingering. It wouldn't hurt people here an that's what was important to him. An honest break.
But those weren't thoughts he wanted to dwell on now. This was the time where he could openly enjoy himself and drag Nanami all over to try to have him live his life, too. Maybe even get the man to find something he enjoyed to the fullest. Or even better, they could find something other than curses to bond over. ]
Hmmm... [ He peers from one food place to another in debate. ]
[ His worries on Itadori's future will be put on hold here. You are a jujutsu sorcerer, but you still are not yet an adult. He feels this world and this city could help allow the young man to experience the freedom and peace of living.
So he sets his negative thoughts aside and says aloud: ]
No, you don't have to pick just one.
[ And it would seem the two would find something to bond over relatively quickly.
Nanami won't say that he wasn't wondering if Itadori was hungry or not, but he also was curious to try what food was available. Granted, he has no intention of eating these kind of foods daily, but it would give him a good idea of what to expect in terms of taste.
Still, if Itadori had indicated he did not want to eat anything, he wouldn't have pressed the issue to satisfy his own selfish interest. ]
Let's be quick about it, then. If we stand too long in line, we may miss out on other things to try. [ He pushes his glasses up and starts to head toward the nearest food cart. ]
[ There could be an argument made that he is a lot closer to being an adult than a child than he was before he entered this world, especially with some of the choices he's made and realities he's had to face. Choices that Nanami had wanted to protect him from, but unfortunately was unable to because of Mahito.
But here? None of that mattered. At least, it seemed to be fine. He wasn't being plagued by his curse companion. So, he could forget all his worries and cares and be just as he was. Young and look at the world with a more innocent eye until he needs to think otherwise. Hopefully that doesn't come to be. ]
Lead the way, Nanamin!
[ He starts to follow after Nanami and throws his arm up in the air with a cheer. The fact that Nanami also seemed interested in the foods, or at the very least indulging him, was pretty nice. To this point, they hadn't had a lot of time to relax and have fun, so it was interesting to see this new side of him instead of getting a normal lecture.
As they approach the first food cart, he starts to peer at everything and takes a deep breath, starting to drool a little bit and he has to wipe the corner of his mouth so he didn't slobber everywhere. It isn't his fault everything smelled so amazing. ]
This already looks more appetizing than what we had to eat on that station.
[ He turns his head to let out a little sigh of relief. There was no telling if the quality of food on the station was actually indicative of what they would have available to them in the city. Even if the food smelled better, he wouldn't be able to ease his concerns until he actually saw the food himself. ]
Though, please contain your excitement some, Itadori-kun. [ He carries on with the transaction to get them both some fried meat on sticks. Handing the one over, he immediately takes a bite of his own.
Stepping back out of line, he needs a moment of silence. Delicious. Nanami is not crying nor would he cry over the taste of anything, but he does feel a knot in his chest loosen. ]
It's acceptable. But I will ask you not to make this a daily meal while you are here. If you end up doing so, well, it is not as though I can or will stop you. [ And he takes another bite before already looking around for something else to try. ]
[ It's hard to reign in his excitement after the scene they were in earlier with the station and the lead up to being rescued. Even if the streets and faces were unfamiliar, it still made what came before feel almost like a dream. Not exactly a nightmare, even if the initial arrival was unpleasant and seemed life-threatening. It was more an uncomfortable dream.
This was like a breath of fresh air and rejuvenated him completely. But he would try to heed Nanami's words and pull back a little bit of his excitement.
When offered the meat, he takes it from him with a "thanks!" He immediately digs in and tears off a piece with his teeth. It really did taste heavenly after the food they'd been given before.
For his initial assessment, he gives a big thumbs up at Nanami. It doesn't come with any words just yet since he's continuing to take another couple bites. This really isn't containing his excitement, but at least he's not going so far that he's just talking around his food to give his approval. Once he's done with his third bite and swallows. ]
It really is delicious. [ He peers at all the stands. ] I wonder if this is how they normally have everything set up.
[ He doesn't confirm or deny if he'll eat things like this every day if someone didn't watch him, but either way, he'll at least be well fed, assuming he can pull together enough currency from this place.
At this point, he is peering around to find if there's something to drink to go with this that might be fitting. Upon seeing a stall that had an assortment of beverages, he points it out. ]
[ It is a little hard to look around to see what shops are in the area with the crowds bustling about. He still takes a second to carefully survey the area -- noting, again, that there does not seem to be any curses filtering about in the group of people.
Nanami wonders if there will come a time that he will no longer look for curses, while he is here. He doubts it. But there's no need to bring up that sort of talk to Itadori. Because he would like for the teenager to stop looking for them while he is here; he would like for Itadori to be able to just look around without searching for anything amiss. ]
They do. [ He gives a nod at the drinks. ]
Itadori-kun, I will say that even though I'm planning to buy all these food for us that I will reject any attempt in the future from you to pay me back. [ Yes, it seems better to him to have this sort of conversation. ]
I am letting you know now that I refuse the idea of taking any manna that you earn for yourself. I feel that if I don't tell you this now that it will become a headache later.
[ When he had been given the go ahead about the drinks looking good, he stares to speed up into almost a trot in that direction before skidding to a halt at Nanami's next words. He lets the older man finish out and tilts his head a bit.
Ah, yes. The gentle reminder that he's a child and Nanami is the adult here. While he's had it explained to him in very plain terms, there was still a part of him the almost yearned to be treated as an equal to Nanami. He doesn't even realize the full weight and magnitude of that wish and might be something that is a regret later in life for even feeling that way, but it's just something innate. Wanting to be accepted by this man he's learned to quickly respect and that he's grown fond of very easily.
From the outside, it would almost look like these two would be so opposite in their personality that they wouldn't get along. But that wasn't the case. Itadori genuinely appreciated his time with Nanami and despite the lectures, would love even more time with him. So being here was perfect.
But once Nanami finishes his words, he puts up his hand, almost like he wants to reject what Nanami says. ]
Wait. Shouldn't I be able to do what I want with the manna I earn?
[ And what if Nanami is important to him and he wants to get him a gift or treat him back? Kids did that kind of thing for adults plenty of times. Even small tokens would be fine... But it sounds like even that might not be accepted. ]
[ He frowns a little at the hand that is raised. Breathing in deep, he thinks that if even a matter like this will be argued with -- discussing the bigger issue will be even more troublesome.
Nanami does hope to sit Itadori down to tell him that he does not need to involve himself with anything that should happen in the city. With so many unknown variables, it is wise to assume that anything could happen. But he hopes that the trouble that occurs is mundane in nature -- or well, mundane as far as the planet goes.
He hopes that it will not be on a scale like they have already experienced, but there is no way of knowing. The world that they came from has no connection to the world that they are on. He has no idea what could be or would be, but if there is even a chance, he would like Itadori to remain out of it.
There is no reason for him to continue to live his life for the sake of others. He is still young enough to be selfish and self-centered -- and Nanami does not see anything wrong with that, at all.
Breathing out another sigh, he wonders how all of that will go over, and asks a question that he is certain that he will be repeating: ]
[ Right now, Itadori is rather put out at the fact that Nanami doesn't get why he's a bit upset at the idea of not being able to give Nanami anything during the duration of their stay. Really, he gets part of the idea why Nanami doesn't want to accept things from him while they're there, but... he doesn't have to be that strict with his guidelines.
It isn't like he's just going to be throwing his earnings in the garbage. Nanami has been an important person to him and he feels like he's going to continue being important, especially in this place. So, it's likely that from time-to-time he'll want to surprise him with small gifts if we spots something or just as a "thank you" gesture. Sure, he doesn't know important dates relating to Nanami, nor is it certain that time follows the same here as it does at home, but that's besides the point. They could make their own little celebrations here.
This is one place where Itadori is going to be defiant and try to make Nanami understand why it was important to him. Hopefully they could come to some kind of agreement that would work for the both of them.
Or, maybe, it'll just be who is more stubborn than the other. Hard to say sometimes. ]
You might be an adult, but you're still someone important to me, Nanamin.
[ He already lets out a sigh when Itadori says that it is a very big problem.
His head gives a very slight tilt as he waits to hear the reason for why it is an issue. But Nanami can honestly say that he is surprised by the response given. He thought that it would be an issue of equality or not wanting to be seen as a child. There were a few answers that he could give to that, but he did not think that the reason would be something as simple as he is important to him.
[ At the resignation to that fact, it's very apparent that Itadori cheers up immediately. It isn't that he's happy he won a battle with Nanami, but that his point was taken seriously and wasn't dismissed. He meant it from his heart and he's glad that isn't being disputed.
He's long since accepted the fact that Nanami will treat him like a child, so he was full aware that type of argument wouldn't work anyway. ]
Will do.
[ And he gives him a big thumbs up in return. He'll make sure he doesn't go overboard to make Nanami upset, but he won't hold back now if he sees something that just strikes him. ]
[ Part of him feels like Caesar is being a little bit too much in his response, but he doesn't fight it. In a way, Caesar is right that he shouldn't have been so hyperactive about the ledge, but also at the same time, he didn't mean ill will and didn't actually harm anyone with his actions. Still. There wasn't any reason to cause trouble or concern or even fight him. Caesar's intentions seemed good, even if on the bitchy side of things. ]
I'll make sure to keep an eye out next time.
[ Maybe he will, maybe he won't. At least, he's being honest that with this ledge he won't just dive forward to check it out. But he will potentially be reckless in other situations. These things happen. ]
[A teenager is going to act the part no matter what and that reckless abandon is something he expects.
He's a good kid though-immediately acknowledging the problem and saying he'll rectify it, instead of brushing it aside. Caesar doubts he won't find this rando in another precarious situation, but hopes he manages to stay out of trouble until his cigarette runs out.]
[ There is something about how Caesar says what he says that doesn't sit quite right with him, but he isn't going to make a huge deal out of it since obviously Caesar was the older one here. He's got no reason not to be respectful. But that doesn't mean he will just comply with it, either. ]
But I thought we were supposed to be waiting for the shuttles?
[ At least, he was told that he should shuffle off to the city and that he was being discharged and encouraged to leave. Maybe not everyone was being ushered out of the gate? He looks Caesar over a little bit, wondering if there was some underlying problem and he was being kept back. Hm. Or maybe just a misunderstanding happened. Either way, he doesn't plan to just go back inside and get into trouble there instead. ]
[He's been with doctors for a majority of his stay-the conflicting news on who leaves when and why something he didn't pay attention to, because he wasn't planning on listening to it. He would come and go as he damn well pleased-no one was going to tell him what to do, especially after they pulled him here.]
Did they offer you a place to stay? I imagine they have some kind of orphanage for wayward reckless kids.
[ Wow, this guy was incredibly demeaning and he doesn't like it at all. But he just sighs a little and moves on, ignoring how he's being talked to and treated. He's had to take care of himself a lot because of various home situations, but he's not about to get into his family history with this stranger.
Anyway... ]
The told me to go to the Embassy and that they'd be helping get things sorted out for where to stay and what to do.
[ Obviously this guy he's talking to either hasn't had that talk or decided to ignore everything that everyone told him during the stay at this station before they could go out into the public. Sometimes "adults" could be a real pain in the ass when they treated those younger like kids and didn't actually act responsible. ]

[ That's enough of an explanation, right?? ]

He lets out a slight hesitant sound.
On this point, I suppose I must... ]
Do as you like, then.

& caesar ;

Go back inside then and stay out of trouble.

Anyway...
